The moon & the unicorn

This is the hill behind my house. The silver light transforms the everyday landscape into something quite mystical. You can just see the faint smudge of a horse grazing still in the darkness, or is it a unicorn. Before I start waxing poetic again I'll just leave you with some words from the master. Take it away Walt:

When I heard the learn'd astronomer,
When the proofs, the figures, were ranged in columns before me,
When I was shown the charts, the diagrams, to add, divide, and measure them,
When I sitting heard the astronomer where he lectured with much applause
in the lecture-room,
How soon unaccountable I became tired and sick,
Till rising and gliding out I wander'd off by myself,
In the mystical moist night-air, and from time to time,
Look'd up in perfect silence at the stars.

-Walt Whitman

  1. That was really beautiful- the photo, the poem, all of it! The last 2 nights, when i have had to get up during the night, i've taken some minutes to just stand stargazing out the window.
    Have a great weekend!

  3. You can wax poetic whenever you like, Michael...you do it so well :-)

Love the shot although I cannot see the horse/unicorn. I can imagine it, though.
